Great shoes - Misrated!

It’s a pity that so many users on here rate a shoe based purely on its sizing!! Admittedly, Evolv messed up here because of course people are going to get worked up when the sizing is so off—and it is! But the X1 is a great shoe—not just good. Best bang for your buck available and you should really see this shoe much more often. It’s very sensitive and smears like a mother- scratcher. Yet it’s firm enough to do well with all-around. Great for tie hooks, and heel hooks are also bueno. The toe is pointy and the toe-box is narrow so if that doesn’t suit you or you have a wide foot they might not be for you. Re: the sizing: you need to go up about a whole size from your street shoe. Or even 1 1/2 over your street shoe. I’m a 10 or 10 1/2 street shoe. My X1s are 11 1/2, and to be honest, I’ll get a 12 next time. After two years I’d say they’ve broken in less than other shoes, so if they feel uncomfortably tight when new, don’t plan on that changing a whole lot. Now you see why people underrate them!? But read the beta on shoe sizing and you’re good!

Great budget performance shoes

I fail to understand all the negative reviews from people who didn't bother to look at Evolv before trying these. Evolv's site explicitly says they try to make their shoes aligned with your street shoe size. I have 10 different climbing shoes from basically every shoe company and these work in 10.5 for me (wich happens to be the upper range of my street shoe size). Beyond that these are also very soft, very aggressive shoes. If you're looking for something comfortable or an intermediate shoe these are not those. These shoes require your feet to be both strong and used to very aggressive shoes. I found them to be no more painful for break in than any other brand. They're very sticky and fantastic for most gym climbing. Again, these are very soft so not for very fine edging. I noticed another reviewer said he got a hole after a year of use, as if that was a downside. If you climb with any type of regularity then very soft shoes like these will get you 6ish months if you have good footwork. If you get a year of regular climbing out of these silly soft shoes then you must have footwork of the gods. All told, of you're looking for a soft aggressive gym shoe that doesn't break the bank these are awesome. If you can snag them at under $100 (which I have for all three pairs I've owned) then they're an absolute steal.

Too small - GO UP A SIZE

I usually wear a 10 for climbing shoes, and I had really really mash my foot to get this pair on. It actively hurt without putting any weight on it. Evolv really needs to change the sizing on these. I've returned these, and I'd recommend going up a full size from what you'd normally wear. Haven't been able to use them, but seems like good construction otherwise.

I wear a 11 street shoe and am returning the 11s for for 11.5s. I size down considerably and have very low volume feet in general. I wear 9.5s and 10s in most of my climbing shoes.

These shoes run really small! I wear street shoe of 12 for fiveten approach shoes and typically will wear 10.5 for most climbing shoes. Tried the 11.5's and was impossible to get my feet in these shoes. Going for the 12's next and I should have read Fletcher's previous review!

Mine were fairly painful when i first got them which was expected. Once they broke in though my left shoe was fine but my right was still painful. I then realized that there was a manufacturing defect and a crease of the material was digging into my big toe. there wasnt much i could do about it though because by the time i noticed it was too late to return them. they were decent for the most part but i am getting a different pair now because my feet need it. Also i am starting to get a hole in them from about a year of use.
