If you're only going to have one backcountry touring pack, you'd be wise to make it the Dakine Poacher RAS 36L Pack. It's spacious enough to hold a full day's touring kit, but it's still compact and close-fitting to allow for smooth, unburdened descents.
The main compartment offers room for lunch and extra layers, and the back panel access lets you reach what you need without unloading the entire pack. Meanwhile, an avy tool-specific pocket allows quick access to your probe and shovel, in case the worst happens. A padded hipbelt keeps the pack from shifting around while you ride, and the breathable back panel helps keep your back from getting soaked with sweat.
This pack is compatible with Mammut's Removable Airbag 3.0 System (sold separately), which inflates in seconds to prevent you from getting buried in the event of an avalanche. And if you plan on getting into some seriously technical terrain, this pack is also compatible with Dakine's Impact Spine Protector (also sold separately), because you can never take safety too seriously.

ignore the 1 star review guy, dude is on one. this bag is money. it perfectly and comfortably fits the dakine bladder, avy gear, goggles + extra lens + sunglasses, two sets of gloves, a puffy, a shell, snacks, tools, hats, and a helmet in the tuck away pouch on bottom, or the helmet loops up top. the way the layout of the bags access makes perfect sense when on the skin track or taking a quick break. makes everything incredibly simple to get to. the support straps help make the bag feel like it isn't even there most of the time. A solid bag with ample room, a fantastic layout, straight forward access, sleek look, and at a great price. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get out for the day.

I have used several Dakine bags over the last 15 years and they progressively get worse and cost more. CONS: 1. Can only access main storage from the back of the bag where your back meets the bag. 2. Metal hip-belt latch makes tons of noise and is difficult to use, especially with gloves. Good luck getting it off in a hurry and have fun when the sound ruins any videos you make with metal clanking 3. This design is basically a worse version of the Dakine Heli Pro from 15 years ago, which was $120 at the time. It seems that key features they know people want (hip-belt storage) have been left off all bags but their "higher-end" ones. 4. So many zippers poorly layed out on top, easy to get confused which zipper accesses what. 5. Helmet strap hooks are very difficult to use, your gloves likely have to be off, and even then it is a pain to latch/unlatch. 6. Bag is so tall it hits you in the face on a chairlift. I have a very long torso, so I imagine for others it will be even worse. 7. LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS THE CLAIMED CAPACITY. EVEN WITHOUT THE AIRBAG, THIS HAS LESS STORAGE THEN A 25L BAG. IF YOU PLAN ON USE THIS FOR TOURING, IT WONT WORK. PROS: 1. The build quality seems ok, but others have noted when actually using this for backcountry skiing, it falls apart. Seems their target demo is no longer actually tour/backcountry skiers.
