Why We Like The Crank Brothers Stamp BOA Cycling Shoe

Crank Brothers is primed to enter the footwear arena with three new MTB shoe models for flat and clipless pedals. While the Mallet and Mallet E shoe are designed to pair with the brand's clipless pedal collection, the Stamp is a flat-pedal MTB shoe for riders that prefer a solid platform. At the top of the Stamp roster you'll find the Stamp BOA Cycling Shoe, a rugged boot featuring a BOA fit system that delivers immediate micro-adjustments on the trail. Its MC1 rubber sole mimics the size and shape of Crank Borthers' Stamp flat pedal to deliver maximum surface area, and we love how easily the deep lugs align with the pedal pins for a stronger hold. Heel and toe lugs increase traction off the bike as you ascend muddy hills, or hit the town for a post-ride drink with friends.

Easy to put on and comfortable

I purchased these shoes mainly for the Boa fastener and Velcro strap. My previous shoes did not fit great and were a hassle to get on every time I went for a ride (I hate timing my shoes so always slip them on and leave laces tied). With these shoes I simply undo the Velcro, pop the Boa, and I’m out. Then slipping them on is easy and it takes a few seconds to reattach the Velcro and synch the Boa. They are very comfortable (I use the same size as I purchase my hiking and running shoes) and easy to keep clean with the smooth exterior surface.

Crank Bros. Stamp BOA misses the mark

Unfortunately this shoe misses the mark in a key area. Let?s start with the good . This shoe fits me nicely. It has a roomy toe box, a heel grip to minimize slippage and most importantly a BOA latch combined with a single Velcro strap. The bad news is that one of the most important attributes that most riders are looking for is weak and that is GRIP. Holy smoke Crank Bros, you know the competition and you know what is needed. How could you screw up the grip . I love wearing the shoes but there is no comparison to Five Tens. I kept hoping after some use the soles would become more pliable and tacky. That has not happened. Not very confidence inspiring. Get a grip Crank Bros.

Poor Grip

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love the style, fit, weight, BOA, but these do not inspire confidence on the bike. I'm also riding with Crankbrothers Stamp pedals. The grip just isn't quite there and I found my foot slipping off my pedals way more often then my years old Five Tens. I really gave these a good try (dozen or so rides) and really wanted to like these but I'm back to my old shoes. Putting on my 2 year old Five Tens, I immediately felt way more grip and confident on the bike. Won't be riding with these again.
