Why We Like The Burton Ruler BOA Wide Snowboard Boot

Burton answered our calls for a wide version of their O.G. all-mountain crusher with the Ruler BOA Wide Snowboard Boot. It offers the same iconic versatility to rip everything from park laps to pow days, as well as the same convenience, comfort, and reliability of BOA lacing—just now with a wide last for riders who need a little extra volume. The medium flex keeps it supportive enough for steep terrain and big park features without making it too stiff for surfy turns and playful laps, while the B3 gel cushioning and Sleeping Bag Reflective Foil ensure that cozy comfort stays a priority.

I've ridden Burtons for the past 25 years. I've finally upgraded from laced up Burton Hails. I loved the Hails and would buy another pair if they still made them. Going from a comfy mid all terrain boot to a slightly stiffer boot concerned me. Upon the first couple rides I noticed that the boot cuff on top was a bit higher and more rigid than my previous boot. This lead to some calf irritation where it was "cutting" into the lower part of my calf muscle. The first 3 rides I had the top Velcro liner a bit loose along with the inner liner lace. During this time I notice heel lift and not being as secure as my 15 year old hails. on my fourth ride I feel like I had them dialed in a bit better. I was apprehensive to tighten down my inner lace liner as in previous boots they put excessive pressure on the top of my foot. This is now an issue of the past. Currently I lace up the inner liner quite tight to prevent the heel lift and make the inner boot nice and snug. I snug the lower boa just tight and then crank the upper quite a bit. After a run or two the upper is ready for a few more clicks. Once they're set I'm good for the day. I really appreciate the boa system and being able to quickly adjust. I have noticed a bit more control with the stiffer boot making my board feel more responsive. I noticed the footbed seems to be a bit lower and less cushion than my hails, but this I will adapt to and may give me more responsiveness.
