You probably remember Burton's legendary Malolo if you've been freeriding for the past decade or so, which was one of their all-time classics for charging the steep and deep of your local range. Burton revived it for the 2017/2018 season as the Family Tree Mystery Malolo Snowboard, retaining the original Malolo shape, but incorporating their secretive Mystery construction for a feathery feel with rocket-like response when you're ripping steeps and floating across the fresh stuff we all crave. This top-secret construction is developed in Craig's prototype facility at Burton headquarters, giving this board an ultra-precise, extraordinarily lightweight feel that's simply not attainable with other boards.
It retains the original's blueprint for freeride success, a tapered directional shape that naturally drops the rear end into the snow, helping you float effortlessly. This tapered directional shape is paired with a Directional Camber profile, which features prominent camber underfoot for all the locked-in response and edge hold you need, blended with a large, rockered nose that maintains buoyancy in deep pow.
Mystery construction starts with an Ultralite 500G core, which is the lightest core ever produced by the iconic Vermont board company, shaving weight for boosting higher and riding faster on the mountain. Mystery Glass then employs a futuristic carbon lay-up to dial in a precise degree of stiffness and flex where it's needed most. And to keep you gliding effortlessly across deep powder and flat run-outs, Burton's fastest Methlon base is comprised of a high-grade sintered material for blistering speed and durability. Best of all, these construction techniques lend a high degree of strength, so you won't have to worry about durability when you're putting it through the paces across the mountain's wild spaces.
