Bright but broke before I could even use it
I bought this a few months ago and before I could even use it, it broke! The door latch is very cheap plastic and the latch that grabs the door snapped right off. It's taken me a few months to write this review because I had to buy a different headlamp and put this in a drawer and forgot about it. It's bright but Ive seen 20 dollar ones just as bright, hopefully I can get a replacement or even an upgrade.

Power Tap Malfunctioning
I am on my 2nd 450 storm. It is a nice lamp, but the powertap is incredibly frustrating and I have noticed that the light flickers. I am disappointed with my purchase and with the replacement.

No more black diamond headlamps for me
The battery doesn’t last as long as you hope and it’s never as bright as other headlamps around me. The buttons are simple yet infuriating especially if you have gloves.

Sub-par replacement for BD Revolt
I got this as the equivalent replacement for my BD Revolt I bought back in 2016 that finally stopped working consistently with the rechargeable batteries. The Revolt got heavy use and I was happy with it. When this arrived I was very surprised to see that it did not come with rechargeable batteries like the Revolt had (I should have ready the description I guess, but I assumed since they were included with the Revolt…) especially since this headlamp was not cheap. The buttons on top are very sensitive (my hand brushed it barely and it changed lighting setting) and have WAY too many settings for my needs (who needs a blue, green AND red light? Sorry). These are all things I can live with, but the thing that drives me nuts and makes me not want to even use the thing are that the blue battery indicator lights come on EVERY time I turn the thing off and they shine right into my eyes. What terrible placement. When I turn off my light I don’t want blue light shining in and blinding my eyes.

Ready X 2
I usually recharge but with duel fuel I have safety back up on expeditions. Simple to use, plenty of lumens.

A new light
Have been looking for a new headlight, my old ones were 15 years old and needed to be replaced. Saw a article on the Outdoor news and liked what I read. Ordered it and have been happy with the light. The only con would be the button to change the different lights. Should be more pronounced if wearing gloves.

Nice headlamp, haven’t used it yet
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- Std.
- Weight:

Received this today and it seems to be a nice piece. App read to be well made, also looks to be fairly durable as long as it isn’t sat on with the hinge in a funny position (but that should go without saying for just about any hinged headlamp). There are more than a couple of features - 3 individual lights that can be used individually or in combination, a button to switch directly to ‘full bright’ for the individual light selected (keep in mind that if you are using the main large light, tapping full bright will also turn on the smaller light and will turn them both up to full brightness, tapping the full bright button again goes back to your prior setting), 3 different LED colors, and an SOS feature for the red light (however this doesn’t work on my light for some reason). The down side - the tap button can be hard to use, and (on my headlamp at least) the SOS feature doesn’t t seem to work. In my opinion having a button with positive affirming action (a noticeable click or depression feel) is better than the finicky tapping buttons which never seem to work very well, no matter who designs them. Not sure if it would have been that much heavier to have an actual button on the side for ‘full bright’ vs the tap feature, or maybe that’s just so they can say ‘tap feature’ on the advertising, or maybe this is extremely useful for mountaineering or rock climbing. I do not currently do any of those things, so I cannot say. Overall it seems worth the money, but I believe it has been discontinued and replaced with a new model at this time. Hopefully the new model has a better button and a working SOS feature.

Storm 450
I’m not very happy – I’ve owned this less than a month and it’s already broken. I always take a headlamp with me whenever I travel. I was away this weekend packed my headlamp and somehow upon unpacking the headlamp was damaged. From the picture, the clasp that keep the battery compartment closed snapped. What’s most frustrating is I wasn’t out in the elements. If it couldn’t survive a trip in my car in a duffle bag, what chance would it stand in the outside world. I’ve owned headlamps since the 90’s, and I’ve never had to consider them as delicate, Black Dimond this can only be considered a poor design. PS. I loved everything else about the light except this cheaply made weak point.
