The Black Diamond Helio Recon 955 Ski styles the same backcountry-friendly design as the original Helio, except instead of a lighter carbon layup, Black Diamond used triaxial fiberglass for a beefier, stiffer feel. That's not to say it's too heavy for touring; this Recon model maintains a trim seven pound weight that's more than suitable for a long skin up steep mountains. It simply styles the same shape, sidewalls, and vibration-damping technology as the original Helio, except a stiffer flex and a poppier wood core make the Recon a more aggressive choice for laying down turns at faster speeds, and digging into firmer snow a bit better.

Like Skiing on Rails
These things are amazing, made me smile again about skiing. They edge and carve flatout. Amazingly stable off piste as well for such a light ski. Super impressed. I also weight 100kgs and there is plenty of life in them.

Great skis
One season of use and these skis rock! Purchased these to be my more narrow, lightweight, playful setup and I got what I wanted.

Great sticks
Bought these for a light set up. Great ski so far. Will have to see how they hold up before I can say how durable they are. So far I love them

Very Solid Ski
I grabbed a pair to replace my Warrants from about a decade ago. I demoed some other popular brands that are getting lots of gear awards, like the Nordica Enforcers, but was not impressed with their maneuverability and range of conditions. Nothing else can handle the variable conditions like Recons or Boundary Patrol. The Recons are outclassed by purely powder of a purely groomer skis, but nothing does better as an all around. They can handle the super icy conditions, the groomers, the chop, and the powder quite well. I think they do best in chop and powder and fine on the groomers. They don't carve hard in the groomers, but that's ok. My biggest problem is all the ski resorts closed only weeks after I bought them!

Awesome Skis
I have been on these for a few weeks now and done 6 or so days and they are awesome so far. They are light on the uphill but so fun on the downhill. Really stable and hold an edge really well. They go side to side really fast.

Variable snow dimensions
I purchased these because they are made in Austria and have the perfect dimensions for the one quiver in variable conditions, quicker edge to edge compared to its 105 sibling, yet with enough flotation for those days. It isn’t very shaped so it’s a bit smoother with catchy snow, and moderate camber helps with hard to soft snow transitions.
