The Helio 200 R5-10 Binding is part of Black Diamond's new, ultralight binding line, and is ready to take on steep skintracks, long approaches, or fast powder laps before work. Weighing in at just over 14.1 ounces per pair, you might not notice you have bindings on your skis as you crush steep ascents with impressive ease. To maximize efficiency on the ups, three heel riser options allow you to cater to the terrain, and when it's time to snap in your heel for the descent each turn feels secure and responsive, despite the binding's low weight. Instead of having just three release values like the other bindings in the Helio line, the 200 features values from five to 10 for reliable, customizable release.

Incredibly lightweight
The Helio 200s are incredibly lightweight and perform great. It would be nice if it had a second riser. Turning it 180 degrees on the ski track for a different height isn’t ideal. But if you’re okay with only using 1 riser option, and want a lightweight backcountry binding that performs nicely in Utah powder, I would recommend these.

Lightweight has a downside
I used these bindings for two seasons without incident and thought I had the release settings dialed. Unfortunately one binding pre-released while cranking high speed turns in an open bowl, resulting in a bad crash in remote conditions. The design eliminates springs on the left side of the toe piece in order to save grams and simplify the mechanism, which means zero elasticity on that side. In my case that resulted in a fractured femur, helicopter evac and titanium hip replacement. Would recommend a beefier tech binding for fast skiing. These work well for picking your lines with restraint but at 200 grams they should be skied conservatively.

Light n reliable
I purchased a pair of Helios this spring to replace my G3 Ions that failed after 3 good seasons. The lightweight yet durable functionality of this binding is impressive. If I could change one thing about them I’d make the riser go just a few degrees higher.

Excellent
The helio bindings are the perfect balance of lightweight and performance for true tourers out there. Very thoughtful features and adjustments on the bindings too.

Great bindings
Work just as expected and are sturdy and durable. I work as a mountain guide in Canada and it is a nice light binding that still skis well.

Light but solid
I was skeptical that they could provide a solid performance at this weight, but I’m a believer. Perform as well as heavier comparators.

Hello binding
I have only used this binding a few times but so far it’s performed great. I went on a ski trip with a few friends they both had different issues with their setup but I had no problems . We skied some lines where a ski coming off would have been terrible. They are solid and I would recommend this binding.

Back to the drawing board
Make a design where you don't have to rotate the rear heel tower to adjust heel riser levels.
