Why We Like The Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Pole

As any seasoned pro like us knows, weight can make or break a distance hike, but equally necessary for efficiency with a large pack is a trekking pole or two. The Distance Carbon FLZ Trekking Poles are made from carbon fiber, which keeps the weight down but keeps strength and durability up. Twenty centimeters of adjustable length makes them versatile as well, so we can fine-tune their size to match the terrain.

A lightweight EVA handle and foam extension doesn't add much in the way of ounces, but it does add all day comfort during 20 mile days, and the foam is moisture-wicking as well, so there'll be no case of clammy hands slipping on a steep slope. The Carbon FLZ comes complete with interchangeable carbide and rubber Tech Tips, too, so we can confidently cross from grassy valley to rocky scree slope without batting an eye.

All year ski poles for me

Why do I say this? 1- Carbon FLZ is versitile for me. 2- Ultra lite. 3- 100cm-125 length = skiing length+20 extension for hiking ‘up’ easier. 4- Overcenter lever is minimal and ‘near the top’ of the pole and unlikely to lose poles skiing the trees. 5- Carbon fiber is lite, strong, stiff ..and spendy. Worth it. 6- Compact ..if I need it ..quickly. 7- Resort skiing, AT skiing, backcountry skiing, trail running FLZ poles work perfectly. Good job BD team!!

Great Product

These things are so light. I have always had problems with traditional poles getting caught up all the time while scrambling when they are strapped to the back of my pack. I love that I can fold them up and stow them away unlike traditional poles.

Featherlight power boosters

I just used these poles for a 100-mile fastpack on technical trails and found them to be a huge boon to running and hiking. Having extra power transfer from the arms makes big difference in going uphill, and the poles act like extra legs on technical descents. I also found them very comfortable and nearly weightless in hand. Unfortunately, I have had some problems with the locking mechanism on one pole slipping, which occasionally means I need to readjust the pole's length.

Great, but delicate

I recently bought a new pair of these since my old pair had one snap in half when I stumbled in a creek crossing in Gates of the Arctic. I use these primarily for trail running, and they’ve done me well in races such as Leadville, Grand Traverse, and Speedgoat. Unfortunately, the carbon fibre is fragile and breaks easily. I didn’t ask for a replacement, as I figured BD wouldn’t help me out on this (as is typical). I’m hoping my new pair will last me at least a couple more seasons. Overall, this is a great product.

Great running poles

Bought the Distance Carbon FLZ poles to help my aging body with longer runs. They're light, comfortable, and easy to take apart and put back together. I'm loving them so far.

Best trail hiking poles

They fit inside my day pack and are so light and small, can forget they are there. I pull them out when needed for the challenging sections of the trail. So well made. Love them.

Lite and easy

First use of these was in the Fann Mountains in Tajikistan. Even at altitudes of 3600m these did not feel heavy at all and made descending the steep trails so much safer for me.
