Why We Like The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL1 Tent

Backpacking is all about solitude, so we like to ditch the office, the crowds, and the hangers-on and head up into the mountains with just the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 HV 1-Person 3-Season Tent. It's an ultralight backpacker's dream, weighing in at just over two pounds fully packed and nearly a pound lighter if we opt to bring just the poles, fly, and footprint (sold separately) for a quick-set-up option. The updated design features two doors and awnings for extra storage space and easy access no matter where we set up camp.

AT Section Hiker

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Height:
5' 8"
Weight:
165

Replaced my 10 year old Copper Spur UL-1, 2500+ mile model with the new model and took it on a 200 mile shakedown AT hike in Maryland-Pennsylvania. New fabric dries out well and new door design is an improvement (no more sitting on the netting/door). Added Velcro tabs for tarp-to-pole connections gives stability for the new feature that allows the vestibule to become an awning. The "3D" net storage bin in foot area was GREAT to dry out socks (doesn't solve the sock odor issue, but hey Big Agnes can't solve that inherent fact of long distance hiking....)

Second version of this tent I've owned

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
UL1
Height:
5' 10"
Weight:
155

Lighter than my older version of this tent - which served me well over 8 years and hundreds of miles. I like the improved door zipper location - keeping the doors off the floor. What I don't like is the new fly / tent / peg plastic clip setup - it is a really poor design. One of the clips failed where it connects to the webbing loop on the 3rd night. It just appears it was overstressed, supporting the fly, the tension from the poles, and the tent pegs. It would be so much more reliable if there was a grommet in the webbing loop to hold the tent poles, if the tent peg loops had also been tied directly to the webbing, and the plastic clip had been used to only attach the fly to the body of the tent. Hope they fix this in future releases - it really shouldn't be failing on the second use / third night. I had my previous version for 8 years without a single problem. I wouldn't recommend this tent until the clip issue is corrected.

Great Tent

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Height:
6' 5"
Weight:

I haved used the tent for about 15 nights on three separate backpacking trip in the intermountain west. I am a fairly long human at 6'-5". It has rained. It has snowed. The wind has blown. It has performed well in every respect. I have always been comfortable. It is crazy light. There are no rips but - the fabric feels very thin so I have been extremely careful.

Got delivered today, quick set-up maybe 2 minutes , no instructions needed.. Super light weight for my standards and small pack size wow.. This tent will be great for just me, little gear holder inside and some pockets plus the vestibule , more then enough space went with the olive green figure it would blend in off trail better.. As long as this tent keeps me dry it will be a amazing little tent..(Will Update)
