Why We Built The Spruces Mid-Weight Merino 3/4 Baselayer Bottom
This season, we tweaked the Spruces Mid-Weight Merino 3/4 Baselayer Bottom to thrive as our first layer of defense against chilly weather and moisture in the alpine. We updated the merino wool blend so that it pulls moisture off of our skin while we skip up the skin track, traps heat while we sit on the lift, and fights odor so that we can do it all again tomorrow.

Why didn't I buy these sooner?
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

I can safely say I've been sleeping on the 3/4 baselayer. It's so nice not not have this bunched up fabric at the top of my boots, and in a killer merino fabric. These are nice and stretchy, soft to the touch, and offer all the performance with none of the chaff that a lot of baselayers come with now.

Perfect for me

Just wanted to provide some reassurance to some of you nervous to purchase who may be similarly sized to me. I'm 5'8, 175 lbs, and these fit perfectly for me. They sit below right around where the knee cap ends, and the shin begins. Took these out snowboarding and never had an issue with them riding up or being too low. Fabric and fit overall is very comfortable; I came back to write a review and buy another in a different color.

Should be above the knee not 3/4

Too short. You should only be interested in these if you wear ski or hiking socks that go to say mid-thigh. Or you genuinely enjoy the feeling of your knees uncovered by your base layer and that base layer bunched up behind your knee.

My wife got two pair of these for me for Christmas. While the weight, construction, and material are all fine, these are 5/8ths length at best. They come to just below the knee; even with ski socks there's no way they'll not hike up over the knee. As others have said, they need about 3 more inches. I am not an odd size, around 36 waist and 30-32 inseam. The size large fit well around my waist. For $90 I would expect a 3/4 to be a full 3/4. They will be going back.

Nice fabric, bad fit

I think these would be great if the waist was a little higher—the back rides so low you’ll feel like a plumber every time you ride a chairlift. The fabric is the right weight to be pretty versatile and I like the 3/4 length.

Just Like Described

These are not skin tight. The description says semi-fitted and that is what they are. The length is what is shown in the picture. As with other reviews there is a little gap to socks but I prefer the two not interfering. I have never thought the area blow my knee and above my upper calf was causing me to freeze to death. I wear a 36 pant and the waist is tight enough but I do not think it would be too tight for a 38 inch waist either. Adds good warmth to my shell pants.

about 3" too short. Socks will not reach pant leg. Waist is correct but poor fit in the crotch and rear.

Good fit, reasonable warmth

I like wearing 3/4 length when skiing, to keep bunches out of my ski boots. These are comparable in weight to capilene, but merino wool so a bit warmer. Great flexibility and fit. I'm 6' and 160", 30x33 pants, and the S fits me well. Snug, but secure. I like them. They're a little shorter than some of my other 3/4 longies, but they still come a bit below the knee (maybe 3"), so they work great with tall ski socks.

3/4 length long underwear

I like 3/4 length long underwear for skiing. It reduces the bulk in ski boots. These however are too short by about 3 inches. That means that even with ski socks, they do not cover the top of the socks. They are slightly longer then knee length.

Nice piece, but too loose and baggy in the crotch for my liking. Four stars because it did appear well made other than my one complaint.
