Why We Built The Plinko Carbon Splitboarding Pole

The Plinko Carbon Splitboarding Pole feels light and sturdy on the ascent and tucked out of the way for the descent. It's an ultralight, fully collapsible pole that we made specifically for splitboarders. Carbon keeps the weight at a minimum, and Komperdell's Powerlock 3.0 adjustment system keeps the pole at whatever length you want. We also appreciate an extended grip to keep us moving up switchbacks and technical terrain with ease. For the baskets, we used Komperdell's regular, ultralight winter basket for better floatation in powder, and they adjust in angle to accommodate varying steepnesses.

Broke my first day out

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Height:
6' 1"
Weight:
190

Similar to what others have said, these broke the first time I used them while I was skinning on flatland with very little pressure applied to them. I have to think that there is something wrong with the carbon lay that makes these break in almost the same place. The idea of these is great, they just need to be re-engineered. Do not buy until they fix this issue.

The broke on my second tour out. Similar to other reviews, they broke in half near the bottom of the pole.

Mine also broke in half on third day

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Weight:
185

Have had great experiences with Backcountry items in the past. So, I was excited to get these. On my third trip out one of the poles broke in 2. It was a warm day and they only had a couple pounds of pressure on them, while skinning up.

Broke in half on third use

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I got this and was excited about them. The one of the pole completely snapped in half one the lowest third segment while in use. This occurred while skinning up, not during a crash, but just planting weight into the pole while kick turning in a switch back.

Great Splitboarding Poles

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was looking for something splitboarding specific after getting tired of longer poles flopping around the outside of my backpack. I initially had the Jones aluminum version but the lower latch to keep compact wasn’t staying in place so I switched over to these. I am really glad I made the decision. These are very compact and fit inside my backpack. Super light but feel very sturdy.

Lock sticks open

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Height:
6' 2"
Weight:
215

I picked these up before the 2022 spring season. First trip into the back country and I immediately noticed that the collet style push button lock would not reliable close. Not sure if this was temperature related or what, but it was worrisome when I could not get my pole to lock into place. It could be a manufacturing defect on my particular pole and not common (only one of my poles exhibit this behavior. Aside from this, they are otherwise of quality: light and pack away fairly small.

Extremely lightweight and Packable

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I admittedly am a skier, however, I have found these poles to be more packable than the ski version and still retaining the durability. During the summers I can double them as trekking poles :) Carbon is a lot more dependable than some aluminum poles I used to use, carbon won't bend at the joints and snap nearly as easily as aluminum. Worth the extra dollars. Love the extended grips too! 10/10 would recommend. PSA: These are a SET, it comes with two poles!

Super light and packs small!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

The carbon makes this pole is super light and really easy to pack up and stow away in your pack, I was surprised that it did not take up much space at all! The materials that make up the pole look durable as well, so it should not have any issues like the compactor pole sometimes gets a rep for. There are buttons that release the pole to fold up and very easy to use. The handle is nice and long that makes side hilling nice and easy! On the uphill, the pole feels rigid as well, this is now my go to splitboard pole!
