Why We Like The Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Low 2 Hiking Shoe

When the trail turns soggy or the weather turns cold, we turn to the Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Low 2. The water-resistant bootie seals out snow and rain as we get after it on rainy trail runs or frosty hikes. That's on top of everything that made the Lone Peak famous—its balanced cushioning beneath the heel and toe, its women-specific fit, and its Footshape last with the wide toe boxes that lets our toes splay out for a strong and natural base.

Worse shoe yet

The fit is great, they are comfortable everything about that is great! HOWEVER , they hold moisture in them and so now whenever I wear them when I take them off my socks are that yucky moisture feeling, my feet look like they have been soaking in bath water too long. I've tried air drying them, I've tried the actual dryer but anytime I wear these shoes my feet are wet.

Feels smaller

Always wear Long Peak, have bought for several years, always a size 7. Just got these in same size and they feel too small. Hoping they might stretch out a bit?

Yes

I use these are my favorite everyday walking shoes. The grip is is perfect on a gravel path with high hills. My feet are the happiest in these shoes.

These are the MOST comfortable water proof shoes!

As a dog walker, I have been looking for water proof shoes for 20 years and finally found them!

Great shoes

Love the new fit for the Lone Peak shoes, as the old fit was a bit wide for me. I only gave them 4 stars because I am really unhappy about the fact that they have shortened the laces by several inches. Now its impossible to use the last holes to tighten the fit or double knot to keep the round laces from untying. It seems wrong that I have to buy additional laces after spending a lot for these shoes!

The fit is very different from the regular Lone Peak

I normally wear a regular Lone Peak and a size 7 fits perfectly. I have 5 pairs of size 7. I thought this all weather shoe would be good to have but the 7 was much too tight at the ball of my foot. The 7 1/2 felt OK for the forefoot but then my heel was sliding around unless I laced it so tight it was uncomfortable. I took them back.

One of two styles that don't hurt!

This is 1 of 2 Altra (or any wide toe box) that I can wear w/no extra pain on my heel from PF. They do feel a smidge bigger in the heel than others but tying laces tighter at ankle fixes that.

What is going on

Seriously disappointed with Altra shoes this year - the construction and design are horrible I've tried every hiking boot and shoe this year and have returned them all and I am a diehard Altra fan, which is why I was so determined to just find one option. And don't even get me started on the hideous colors and designs for women we do not want Barney colors or any other outrageous combo we want a everyday color that goes with everything like the men's options - black and orange or black and blue, most of us are outdoorsy and we want shoes that won't show everything and don't scream girly.

What happened?

I'm an avid walker and hiker. I literally wear holes in these shoes. I buy a paor every summer and an "all wthr" pair every winter. After putting in maybe 1-2 miles, I could easily tell something was different. They are much more narrow and not nearly as foot shaped as they used to be. I'm convinced they changed without telling us. I've since put in several more miles in these and I'm just not the fan that I used to be. Why fix something that isn't broken Altra?

I would buy this shoe again if they made some improvements

I recently purchased this shoe for the room in the toe box and its waterproof feature. I liked the shape of the shoe allowing for the toes to naturally spaly out when in motion yet they could have been a bit more roomy to really capitalize on that particular feature. Even with a custom orthotic with a metatarsal pad, I found that my feet were really sore and tired because of the lack of cushioning. This brand should expand on the toe box for the splaying action and add the cushioning of the Hoka!
