So far....too complex
I'm admittedly poor at figuring these sort of devices but even allowing for this the device is so complicated. I just wish there was a simple way of doing less - routes, turn by turn and recorded rides. That's it!

Unnecessarily Poor Interface and Integration
I am highly technologically comfortable. I own an EpixPro, GPSMap Mini, GPSMAP 66i, an Index BPM and Index S2 and use most every day. While the Garmin Universe is poorly organized on the best of days, the 840 has been the most frustrating. I'm going to try it for a few more rides and if it continues to be problematic I will return it.

Very nice
Way more than I need but quality for sure. Mapping great, longevity great, ease if use great

Not user friendly.
Need to include instructions. Can’t find user manual on Garmin website either.

Everything you need in a bike computer
I bought this as an upgrade from my 520 Plus. I've only used it for a few rides but I am very impressed so far. I had the 820 but didn't like it so much because of the lack of buttons. I like that this has both buttons and touch screen. (Most of my rides throughout the year require warm gloves.) Connectivity to my phone and sensors has been smooth. I would recommend this to others.

Love it so far!
I just got the Edge 840 - so far I love it! It was easy to set up. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what can be tracked but I am looking forward to learning g!

Edge 840 Review
I upgraded from the Edge 830 about two weeks ago. Overall, very happy with my decision and the 840 has performed very well. The 840 is the same length a just a bit wider than my 830, I chose the non-solar version since battery life is never an issue for me. There are more side buttons on the 840 so you're not reliant on the touch screen although it does have one. Rain rides will be much less frustrating. The software is much better, new home screen with more info, took a bit to get use to but once you do you'll probably love it. GPS accuracy is better, a few minor glitches on my 79 mile race this weekend but the 840 quickly recovered and "found itself", big improvement over the 830 on the same course. Love having maps for Europe pre-loaded and easily switchable, once again way better than the 830. Numerous new features, look ahead on climbs even without a pre-loaded course, computed power plan for a race or pre-loaded course. The Garmin Connect app + all of my bluetooth devices easily paired with the 840. Basically the 840 addressed all of the issues I had with the 830 and added some really useful software upgrades. If you're looking to upgrade or just getting into racing I would highly recommend this unit.

Great bike bit of tech
I've used a Fenix watch for years and this is very nice to see stats while on the bike. I love the tracking, live heart rate, and all other details on the screen. The climb pro works darn good as well.

It's just okay
I have a Wahoo Elemnt that I like, but purchased the Edge 840 because it has the ability to read my Dexcom glucose monitor. So far I'm not impressed with the Edge. I find the user interface to be clunky and not very intuitive, the touch screen is also problematic. I'm disappointed, compared to the Wahoo the Wahoo wins hands down but I'll keep workting with the Edge because of the interface with my CGM.

All good
It tracks my rides and appears to be extremely accurate. I don't use any of the training functions at this time as much of it is new to me. It was easy to pair with my phone and heart rate monitor. That said: the owners manual provided is basically worthless.
