My New Favorite Go-To Jacket

After six months of use, I thought it was time to write a review of this jacket. I purchased the Greenland Jacket in the fall, so now after seeing three of the four seasons it's best suited for, I can say it was an excellent choice for various reasons. First, its durability. It's functioned well in both heavy rain and snow. I've had to reapply the wax coating three times (the first attempt was a failure). I would not advise using a hairdryer to melt the wax. It's both time-consuming and results in an uneven blotchy look. Go with an iron, apply light even layers of wax and you'll find the outcome far superior. Once I used this method, I was satisfied with the overall outcome. The Greenland Jacket will work very well during the shoulders seasons as well as the wintertime. Second, it's a great choice for layering during the colder months. I'm 6'0'' 185lbs and a large will fit well as a single layer (jacket only) as well as an outer layer with a down insulation layer under the Greenland. I've owned (and still own) various shells and this in now my go-to outer layer in the winter months. It provides moisture protection and the features I both wanted and discovered I didn't know I wanted! The four large button pockets are great for storage, easy to access when wearing gloves, and blend well with the overall look. I also found the front two-way zipper to be a great option for venting when heat dumping becomes necessary. The only small complaint is the zipper can sometimes be difficult to start, but nothing that would make me reconsider this product. Lastly, it's a stylish timeless look. There's a reason this design has been around for decades, its functionality as well as the timeless look. So in terms of both function and style, this is near the top of any choice out there. After buying the Greenland and now six months in, I can say it was a great choice and I think most anyone would agree.

Just what I wanted

Does what I hoped, goes on easily over wool or fleece. It’s tough enough to repel bramble, roses etc but fits comfortably. Very practical outdoor jacket then.

Great traditional jacket

I bought this jacket recently. It’s exactly what I hoped. Durable and protective enough to withstand brambles, hawthorns etc. Comfortable to wear, good pockets, good fit and able to protect very well against wind and showers.

Truly a jacket for life.

Bought mine in about 1980 and am still wearing it today. Comfortable, light, windproof. Perfect for layering. I suspect I'll have it all my life. What a great bit of kit!

Great whether about town or on a winter Scout camp

I have been wearing this jacket daily for nearly 6 months and so far has stood up to any activity. Work, town, or a recent wet Scout winter camp. The jacket is hard wearing and a great fit. I went with unlined so it can be a true all year jacket, adding layers underneath in the winter. I am 6 foot 2 inches and medium build. I bought this in large to allow plenty of layering options. Fits great and doesn't look baggy when worn with just a t shirt. I recently gave it a good waxing with Fjallraven's Greenland wax (rubbed on and used a hairdryer to melt it). This kept me dry for the most part, although had some limitations after a full day of constant rain - this is to be expected. Much better durability than a gore-tex jacket, and much better for the environment (and potentially my health). I expect this will see me through many more adventures to come.

Classic

This jacket is an absolute classic, light enough to be layered, tough enough to be abused, looks stunning on. Feels such quality. Cannot recommend enough.

Proven and reliable.

Thanks to Youtube i finally understood what the Hype and mission of Fjallraven is. Thanks to Fjallraven i've ditched all my PFAS and PFC clothing and gone full, G-1000 and wax. So when i was looking for a winter shell jacket it boiled down one of two and ultimatley i had to go with this timeless classic. Who can argue with a jacket in production since before I was born or one handed down from grandparents? First id like to say i get compliments on this jacket from other men all the time so that should say something. It's comfortable, breaths great, has a great feel. I love the large pockets and the length is perfect. The hood, fits a little odd unless you are wearing a hat, it kinda droops down over your eyes or at least it does me. I do like the stripped down way it's designed, no mesh, no pit zips or draw strings and velcro on the hoot and such because honestly you don't need all that with G-1000. For cross country skiing and fat tire baking its great, I adjust the level of ventilation by opening the cuffs more or just using the snaps and not the front zipper. I would not wear this in warm or hot weather this is a cool or cold weather jacket depending on use, individual and location. For fall, here in Alaska, say 40-50 its great with maybe a thin layer under neath. If your'e going to really ramp up the activity in colder months also very well suited. My one complaint on this jacket is the over all fit, and by the way this is something ALL Fjallraven clothing seems to have. It's cut for lack of a better term, snug or tight, not loose and baggy. I bought this specifically for the colder months here in Alaska, to do active things in and thus i want to layer, but this jacket is simply too snug to allow many layers and still not feel restricting. I could go up a size but then the sleeves would be too long. I know this because i own another Fjallraven jacket for summer trekking and hiking. Even if i was a tad thinner it feels snug around my rib cage when i tried to put a thick wool shirt under it or even a fleece vest. A light or base weight and/or perhaps a medium weight top is about all you can fit under this jacket and allow for movement and more importantly air. Perhaps they should not have altered the original cut? Im sure some would say why not buy the Greenland winter or down jacket? Because I would be way to hot doing anything active in them unless it very cold, the ability to add and shed layers is and always will be the key to activity outside. Im 5’8 about 190 lb's and i wear a medium, like i said the length is perfect for a person my height but the width could be a tad better and thus if you want more room order up a size and deal with the sleeves somehow.

Favorite field jacket ever

Bought both winter and regular jackets and now considering buying another one in different color. That’s how I adore it.

Very nicely made waterproof jacket

First Fjallraven item of clothing. I wanted a waterproof jacket for both town and outdoors. So far I've only been in one downpour but no issues at all. Remained completely waterproof during a Coronation BBQ! All of the pockets are nicely zipped and really well thought out. I still find new pockets in places where I want them. It loses one star because I think the hood could be better. It's too big without some sort adjuster. It's ok with a big bobble hat on, but without it falls over your eyes or blows off. Folding back the front of the hood sort of fixes this, but it's not ideal. Overall I'm happy. I've just ordered some trousers after 6 months of owning this jacket.
