Why We Built The Spruces Print Merino 3/4 Bottom

With a stylish print and midweight warmth, we specifically designed the Spruces Print Merino 3/4 Bottom to be our first layer of defense when we're getting after it in cold, snowy conditions. We decided on its stretchy merino blend because it actively regulates temperature and wicks moisture to help us focus on flying up the skintrack or seeking out the last pockets of untouched powder at the resort.

Terrible

Suck, suck, suck, suck. These suck. Too short. No actual elastic holding power at the bottoms. Only buy these if you enjoy that feeling of your base layer bunched up behind your knees and the chill from the outside of your gear on your uncovered knees. Flat out don't do their job.

Too short

These are more half length than 3/4. They sit just below my knees and leave a two inch gap to the ski boots.

These are soft, and warm but too short. I really like the idea of the baselayer not going into my boot, but these are about 2" too short and you end up with a gap between the top of your socks and the bottom of the leg opening. And I am not tall. I am 5'9" with a 31" inseam and purchased a medium. The waist is true to size.

On the other side of the spectrum from other reviewers, for me, this is THE ABSOLUTE PERFECT 3/4 length! I'm 5'7, so shorter than both, but for me, this is exactly what I'd expected and would have preferred to have in the Grid 3/4. I'm usually between M and L sizes due to heritage from IPAs, so I ordered both and decided to keep the medium with a very nice "huggy but not athletic snug" feeling, with a soft good merino touch quality. I'm happy to report that my fear was that they would shrink, but they did not, so I guess this is great for shorter people like me!

I agree with the other reviewer that, even for a 3/4 length, these need a few more inches at the very least. I toured in them today, so I won't be sending them back, but I'm not sure I can see myself using them again. I purchased a synthetic 3/4 length from MontBell at the same time and toured in those last week. The length on the MontBell are much better and they'll see a lot of use. The bummer with the Backcountry merino 3/4 is that, even with ski socks coming just below my knee caps, these bottoms ride up easily with any sort of bending, crouching, or especially with anything resembling kneeling. Thus, my knees were uncovered for all of my tour today. As far as fabric performance, it's just what you would expect from a good quality merino garment. They are comfortable, dry reasonably quickly, and kept my legs comfortable (on the parts that were covered). If they were a longer, they'd probably see plenty of use, but the MontBell ones are super comfy, stay in place, etc., so I'll just stick with those as my "go to" on touring days.

nice material, but short

Nice material- I kept the same that came in full-length But for the 3/4, I felt the length was a bit too shy for 3/4. Lower cuff sat at the top (to above) my calf. Was looking for something that sat 3/4 down on the calf. For reference. I'm 6/0, 190, 36-32, fairly big quads and calf. purchased L
