Recovery with stability
Recovering from a foot fracture where ortho requires a loose fit across the top of the shoe or altered lacing but rigid. Great support overall. My foot in narrow so I wouldn't go full size up.

Incredibly grippy
Did a 3 mile loop with every kind of terrain: gravel, water crossing, granite slabs. I learned to trust the grip on wet rocks, and even mossy covered steep faces. Every part of my body was sore the next day, except for my feet. I wish they made a GoreTex option. My only issue is the upper is a little on the light side and I avoid wearing them in wet conditions. I also have to say.. I get a lot of head turns with the boa system and styling, they get a lot of looks in the creative studio spaces I work in. I wish they offered more experimental colorways.

Not your grandma's orthopedic shoe
Sooooo comfortable and mildly rigid. I would definitely order a full size up. I tried 1/2 sizing up and I wouldn't be comfortable wearing socks. But overall, I love the look and overall comfort of the shoe:-)

Comfortable shoe
This shoe is so great and comfortable for everyday wear and walks. However, I personally would not recommend for running. The lower boa rubs my foot and leaves it sore after long runs.

I love these shoes so much. I own like 6 pairs.
The best. Love the turn knob lace ups. Love the shape and how sturdy and strong I feel in them. They make me brave. Please make more colors! I want some black ones and some red ones and some pink and purple ones.

high ankles ruin the shoe
I really wanted to love this shoe. The boa system is great, grip is excellent, stack is more comfortable than the lone peak. BUT the ankles ride much higher than the lone peak and chafed me bloody.

this shoe is THE BEST
i love the boa's. i wore them on bicycle shoes before Altra made them. I also love the non padded heel. i am not crazy about the fabric this shoe is made of but i can live with that in order to get the boa and non padded heel.

The Perfect Trail Shoe
This is my favorite trail shoe hands down. I also have the lace up version, and the BOA just adds another level. The fit is great, probably due to the lightweight upper, but this allows a more custom fit. The Vibram grip is superb on trails and boulders, and the stack is comfortable with still allowing for ground feel. The only thing I would add would be a 4mm drop option, since Altra is venturing into that realm.
