Why We Like The New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro V8
The Fresh Foam X Hierro V8 Trail Running Shoe is what we get when New Balance takes its best running technologies to the trail. Their proprietary Fresh Foam X midsoles absorb shock when we run over rocks and roots while providing plenty of energy return, and the Vibram Megagrip rubber gives us gobs of grip on all kinds of terrain, wet or dry. Compared to the V7, the updated Hierro V8 features improved cushioning, a more stable fit, and more protection.

Good looks
Comfortable for long wear despite lacking proper arch support or a modern, wide tongue. Good sole and grip.

Is Newer Better?
Love the new cushoning in these. I had a pair of the v7's and wore the heck out of them. I still find them to be a bit warm but to airy and you loose protection so it's understandable. My only concern is that the new lugs on the bottom are a bit small. Great for light trails but not as grippy as some may like for medium to more aggressive trails. I would assume a lot of people just where these as a heavier duty casual shoe, and the smaller lugs would be more comfortable in that scenario. Overall very happy with them and look forward to wearing these to death until the v9's.

Great Shoe
Great shoe . . . would get 5 stars except that I have a very small area of the foam that has pulled away from the shoe.

Backward step compared to v7
Arrived today and my first impressions are the quality has taken a step back from the v7. There is much less padding around the ankle which also feels harder and a lot less luxurious. I agree with a previous review in that they don’t feel as stable as previous versions and the gussetless tongue is also a big miss! I can’t help feeling these have been a victim of cost cutting measures. Although I haven’t had them on for very long the comfort seems ok but not in the same league as the v7. Hopefully this will be rectified for the v9 otherwise this may be the last pair I buy which is a shame as I’m a big fan of these and New Balance in general.

Sticking with regular 1080 Fresh Foam line…
Definitely not as comfortable for me as the standard 1080 Fresh Foam. Shoes are very light and very well crafted like all NB higher end sneakers. Thanks

Comfiest pair of shoes
Probably the comfiest pair of shoes I've ever owned. Versatile and used for various activities

Worst pair of NB I bought
Extremely unstable for running technical terrain even at walking speed. Shoe is not holding my feet well and toes keep hitting the front in downhills. Cannot use for any other thing than walking around my backyard.

No grip on wet rocks
While the fit and comfort has improved over the previous version , I cannot say the same for the newly designed sole. They are slippery on wet rocks, have no grip whatsoever unlike the previous version which had excellent traction on all trail conditions including wet rocks. The fear of injury in the back country during wet trail conditions have made these unfortunately fair weather trail shoes only for me.
