Why We Like The Altra Lone Peak 8 Trail Running Shoe
Where others turn back, we stride on, and Altra's Lone Peak 8 Trail Running Shoe keeps us moving easy along the overgrown singletrack. The revamped upper features ripstop mesh fabric that doesn't get hung up on thorny brush and sandstone scrambles yet still lets our feet breathe underneath. As the miles tick by, the perfectly balanced foam underfoot softens frozen earth and rocky ridgelines and keeps the pep in our transitions long after our second wind has worn off.

I'm an Altra faithful
I love my lone peak. I've been wearing for years and never disappoints. They are perfect for all the things I encounter on trail runs ...mud and streams and rocks and hills. Please be aware the lone peak 8 is running at least 1/2 size bigger than previous versions. That said... customer service was exceptional in dealing with my issue and the reason I give a 5 star!

For cankles only
So I absolutely loved the 7's. The new 8 is fantastic unless you want to go up any hill or mountain. The heal is freakin huge and meant for fat people with big ol ankles and heals. Theres no nice way to say this Im sorry. They took out the heal cup. I mean if thats 90% of the market for all shoes these days then they have to accommodate. Chunky people need shoes too it just makes me sad. I have a wicked wide toe box and a narrow heal as any long term athlete would and should have. The lone peak 7 was like the original altras. Please dont take my heal cup away, ugh altra. Have a shoe for athletes.

Can't wear anymore
The toebox on these is so low volume I had to send them back. I'm really sad because I've worn out my last lone peaks (a few years old with a separate stitched toepiece) and can't wear any altras anymore because the toe boxes are all so low-volume and stretchy. They all push on my big toes/toenails and are so uncomfortable.

There is a reason everyone LOVES these
Try these. They are different and they are awesome. Light weight but supportive and roomy but they don't slip. I look forward to putting them on. It's weird but true. Do yourself a favor and buy them.

Toe box getting more and more narrow
I've worn lone peaks across Patagonia, through the Dolomites and even for the entirety of the John Muir Trail. They've been my absolute favorite show due to the wide toe box. Over the years Altras have continued to get narrower and narrower. I can't even wear the newest model if I go up 2 sizes. I'm bummed they've made such drastic changes to a shoe that got such a positive following amongst backpackers in its early iterations.

Love them
I am always between a 7.5 and an 8 so hard to get the right size. The 7.5 works but almost feels too small. But otherwise great and love the shoe!

Love the Olympus for trails
I have enjoyed the Olympus as my first pair of Altras. I run ultras and need wider toe boxes due to my feet going numb over 3 miles in regular shoes. These have been great on the trails including in wet conditions. They are very comfortable. This is the second brand I have tried in zero-drop and have found success finally. Very happy with these and love the black / purple colors!

Hook 'em shoes!
My first pair of Altras, and I never went back! I love the width and minimal cushioning in these, I feel confident feeling the ground with my feet. Buy them and don't look back!

change in fit is disappointing
I have worn Altra running shoes for many years and love them. I wear a custom insole. My problem is the heel depth feels more shallow now, and my heel no longer fits fully into the shoe. Why?
