Not waterproof, major fail
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this jacket at sports basement in the "rain gear" section for a trip this week with rain forecast. Today, I was sorely disappointed that the jacket is not waterproof, as rain soaked me.

I wouldn't buy again
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hours spent in the rain wind and cold at a Morgan State Football Game the jacket kept my t shirt dry throughout confirmed in the bathroom at halftime and when I got home. Definitely windproof cause it was windy and chilly. The shell absorbs water doesn't repel. The inner shell keeps you dry. The inner pockets were damp I suppose from my body heat. My cellphone was damp as well. The hood will keep your head dry. Inclement weather wear something warm beneath the jacket. I suffered entire game with just a t shirt. I'd recommend further research on rain jackets to a friend before buying this one

Probably not
This was purchased for a trip to the UK and IR where the weather can switch rapidly and I wanted a lightweight outer layer to go over my sweater or nano puff when the rains came and which I could tuck into a pack or shoulder bag if not needed. Went for my first walk in a Calgary drizzle, not heavy rain. Perhaps my expectations were too high but the outside didn't shed well at all and I started to feel damp about an hour into the walk. Got back home and the outside was soaked and the inside was a bit damp - a bit hard to tell when the jacket came off, it could have been a combo of seep through and breathability. However I hung the jacket up and 2 hours later the outside it is still soaking wet outside. For short showers it may work well but for heavy or extended rains it won't keep you dry. It did seem wind proof and the underarm vents are nice. I suspect that with rain jackets as with many other type of gear you have three variables - cost/weight & durability or a similar characteristic ie water resistance. You can only have two out of three. In the case cost and weight/pack ability is good but don't expect waterproof. So you really have to know what you want this for as this isn't waterproof over extended time or really heavy weather.

Another great product from North Face
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is probably the fifth shell I have purchased from North Face and once again I am completely satisfied with the quality material and construction. The slight stretch in the material makes for a very functional and comfortable outer layer for my morning bike commute.
