Why We Like The Santa Cruz Megatower C S Mountain Bike
From training for our enduro races with numerous hill climbs and descents to just bombing down our local technical trails at full speed, the Santa Cruz Megatower is one of our go-to bikes when we have a day of climbing and all out descending. With 165mm of VPP suspension, the Megatower lives to blast down the steepest of descents and is still efficient enough to climb back up and do it all over again. The Megatower features size-specific chainstays to ensure a perfectly balanced and stable frame for all size riders, and a new steeper seat tube angle, averaging 77.5 degrees, puts us in the perfect position to climb efficiently. The Megatower has a slack 63.8-degree head tube angle that instills loads of confidence when bombing downhill and keeps our front wheel out in front of us, which helps to keep us from feeling like we are going to go over the bars. Santa Cruz's Glovebox frame storage system allows us to keep all our ride essentials in the downtube of the frame, and integrated downtube and chainstay protectors keep our frame protected from rocks and chain slap. To wrap it up, a shuttle guard on the downtube allows us to shuttle to the trailhead without worrying about scratching our frame, and the integrated rear shock fender keeps mud and dirt away from our shock for a cleaner suspension.
The S build of the Santa Cruz Megatower features quality components at a budget friendly price point. First up, the Carbon C frame is built to the same standards as Santa Cruz's premium Carbon CC frame, but is just slightly heavier, to give us a reliable, stiff, lightweight frame. SRAM’s GX Eagle drivetrain provides us with a hug 12-speed, 10-52-tooth drivetrain for getting us up the most technical of climbs and is super reliable. RaceFace's AR Offset 30 aluminum rims and DT Swiss 370 hubs combine to give us a quality wheelset that is ready to take us down technical descents at Mach speed. A RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock keeps our rear end planted on the most technical of descents and soaks up trail chatter like no one's business. A Fox 38 Performance, 170mm fork, lets us charge hard into rock gardens and has a compression switch so we can stiffen up the fork when climbing. Finally, Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires supply loads of traction and bite on the rowdiest of descents, giving us the grip we need
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
