Why We Like The Santa Cruz Megatower C GX Eagle Transmission Mountain Bike
Whether we are in for a full day of long climbs and technical descents, or just tearing up our local trails in the foothills, the Santa Cruz Megatower is our go-to choice when we need a brawler of a bike that can still pedal. With 165mm of VPP suspension, the Megatower is at home bombing down the steepest of descents and is still composed enough to climb back up and do it all over again. Size-specific chainstays ensure a balanced and stable platform for all frame sizes, and a new steeper seat tube angle, averaging 77.5 degrees, puts us in the perfect position to climb efficiently. The Megatower has a slack 63.8-degree head tube angle that gives us tons of confidence when bombing downhill and keeps our front wheel out ahead of us to help keep us from feeling like we are going to go over the bars. A Glovebox frame storage allows us to keep all our ride essentials in the downtube of the frame and integrated downtube and chainstay protectors keep our frame protected from rocks and chain slap. Additionally, a Shuttle guard on the top of the downtube allows us to shuttle to the trailhead without worrying about scratching our frame, and the integrated rear shock fender keeps mud and dirt away from our shock for a cleaner suspension.
The GX Eagle Transmission AXS build of the Santa Cruz Megatower features quality components and an electronic drivetrain at a more budget-friendly price point then other top-level builds. The Carbon C frame is built to the same standards as Santa Cruz's premium Carbon CC frame but is slightly heavier to give us a reliable, stiff, lightweight frame. SRAM’s GX Eagle Transmission AXS electronic shifting provides the latest technology in the market today. It gives us flawless electronic shifting, a durable design, and the same huge gear range. RaceFace ARC Offset 30 aluminum rims and DT Swiss 370 hubs take this build sky high and give us a race-worthy wheelset that is durable, lightweight, and stiff. Another stand-out component is the RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock, which provides great small bump sensitivity and keeps our back end locked down on the most technical of descents. A RockShox Zeb Select+ or Fox 38 Performance Elite, 170mm fork, handles the big hits in the front and has tons of adjustments so we can tune in to our riding style. Finally, Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires supply loads of traction and bite on the rowdiest of descents, giving us the grip we need for high-level riding. When we are looking for an enduro race bike or just a bike that can handle days of huge descents and climbs at our local trails, the Santa Cruz Megatower is one of our top choices.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
