Why We Like The Santa Cruz Hightower C GX Eagle Transmission Reserve Mountain Bike
From technical singletrack to rowdy descents, the Santa Cruz Hightower is our go-to bike when we need a trail bike with a little extra capability. The Santa Cruz Hightower is a 29-inch trail bike with 145mm of VPP rear travel, capable of plowing through demanding downhills and still being nimble and efficient when climbing back up. This iteration of the Hightower gets longer and slacker geometry, with a 64.5-degree headtube angle (low position) delivering a stable platform for navigating super steep trails and high-speed flow lines. Santa Cruz also revised the Hightower's suspension kinematics, reducing the anti-squat in the first half of travel to improve suspension sensitivity when climbing and descending. A more linear leverage curve allows us to ride higher in our travel and have more support in the mid-stroke, while a progressive drop in the last third of travel increases bottom-out resistance. The 76.4-degree seat tube angle puts us in an efficient position for long climbs, and size-specific chain stays and seat tube angles allow riders of every size to get the perfect fit. For those hard-charging days, the Hightower features a flip chip in the rear shock link to change the geometry, making it longer, lower, and slacker for riding steeper and faster lines. The Hightower comes with the Glovebox integrated frame storage allowing us to store our ride essentials in the downtube, and a sag window allows us to set and read our sag easier by utilizing a small cutout in the frame. Additional features on the Hightower include a chainstay and downtube protector, a shuttle guard, and a rear shock fender which all aid in protecting our frame from damage.
The GX Eagle Transmission Reserve build of the Santa Cruz Hightower offers an impressive bang for our buck and offers some of the newest components on the market. Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame gives us an incredibly lightweight and stiff frame that is built to the same standards as Santa Cruz's higher-end Carbon CC frame. SRAM’s impressively efficient and durable GX Eagle Transmission drivetrain shifts instantly and smoothly even as we are pedaling hard to make it up a steep climb. A RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ rear shock and a 150mm Lyrik Select+ fork give us a quality suspension pairing, providing us with multiple adjustments and an easy-to-customize performance fork and rear shock. A pair of Reserve 30HD rims get laced up to DT Swiss 370 hubs to give us a race-worthy wheelset that is durable, lightweight, and quality-built. Lastly, SRAM's 4-piston Code Bronze Stealth brakes give us the confidence we need to ride at a high level, and premium Maxxis DHRII tires throw down bite in corners and grip in the steeps.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
