Why We Like The Santa Cruz Highball C R Mountain Bike
Optimized for an efficient and lively ride, the Santa Cruz Highball is a weapon on everything from tight singletrack to long days with significant elevation gain. The Highball features short chainstays for an agile demeanor, a low-slung top tube and short standover height for a lower center of gravity, and a slack 67-degree headtube angle to finish off a well-rounded and highly capable hardtail. The Highball's lowered seat stays help isolate the rider from trail chatter caused by the rigid rear end, offering a softer feel and more confidence and efficiency in rougher terrain. A smaller diameter seat tube and seat post further help reduce feedback to the rider, and the Highball is compatible with dropper posts if we want to upgrade in the future. The finishing features include SRAM's UDH, three water bottle mounts in the front triangle, tunneled internal cable routing, and downtube and chainstay protectors.
The R build of the Santa Cruz Highball is entry-level but still comes with quality components that give us serious value. Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame has a great reputation for durability and weighs in at only around 3 pounds to provide precision handling and fast acceleration. SRAM's NX Eagle drivetrain equips us with a proven 12-speed drivetrain, and the SRAM G2 R 4-piston brakes keep us under control at race speeds. All suspension duties are handled by the RockShox SID SL Select+ fork, sporting 100mm of travel, tons of tuning adjustments, and a 3-position handlebar-mounted remote lockout for the ultimate climbing efficiency. RaceFace AR Offset 27 rims equip us with a durable and reliable aluminum wheelset, and Maxxis Rekon Race tires roll fast and efficiently.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
