Why We Like The Santa Cruz Bronson C S Mountain Bike
The updated Bronson is here, and with it comes many improvements. The Bronson is a mid-travel quiver-killer of a trail bike that sports a balanced platform for descending and climbing. 150mm of VPP suspension is efficient on the climb, aggressive on the descent, and the perfect amount of travel for most trails. For the fifth iteration of the Bronson, Santa Cruz pulled out all the stops, revamping its suspension system, modifying its geometry, and implementing new features to take our capability to new levels. The Bronson is now longer and slacker, thanks to the new 64.2-degree headtube angle in the high setting, and the longer size-specific chainstays balance our weight better by moving the weight bias to the bike's center for optimal stability. The redesigned VPP pivot placement moves the rear shock mount lower and more forward in the frame, which reduces anti-squat characteristics and makes for a plusher ride. The more active suspension throws down more traction, both climbing and descending, leading to more efficiency all over the mountain. The Bronson still sports its mixed-wheel setup for the best combination of agility and efficiency, and it carries over its threaded bottom bracket and UDH configuration as well. The finishing features for the Bronson 5 include chainstay and downtube protection, the Glovebox internal frame storage, a flip chip to slacken out our geometry for bike park days, and silent internal cable routing.
The S build of the Santa Cruz Bronson is The optimal value-based build that combines a manageable price point with quality components. Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame utilizes quality carbon fiber for stiff handling and a light overall weight. SRAM's GX Eagle drivetrain equips us with a proven and reliable drivetrain and a big gear range. The Race Face AR 30 aluminum rims are lightweight and super durable and are paired with DT Swiss 370 hubs for a premium wheelset that can be easily upgraded for higher engagement. Maxxis Assegai and DHRII tires throw down the grip we need for aggressive riding, and the SRAM DB8 Stealth brakes equip us with simple but very powerful brakes. Finally, the Performance Float X rear shock keeps our rear tire locked to the ground, while the Performance 36, 160mm fork cushions big blows on the way down.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
