Why We Like The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX Wide Hiking Shoe
The Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX Wide Hiking Shoe is what we want to be—lightweight but strong. This best-seller may be light, but it packs a lot of punch with an Advanced Chassis for stability and support, a GORE-TEX membrane for waterproof and breathable protection, and aggressive traction that's clutch on steep uphills and downhills in mud, snow, and scree. If that's not enough it's available in a wide size with a women-specific fit, including a softer cuff and cradling anatomical design that's adapted to the morphology of women's feet.

Comfort and Stability for our Eclipse Adventure!
I purchased the Salomon X Ultra 4 Wide Gore-Tex shoes in a size 7.5 to wear on our vacation in Maine for general hiking and one mountain hike. I couldn't find a wide waterproof shoe locally, so based on the reviews I took a chance and ordered these. I'm so glad I did. Maine had two late storms and Mount Chase was blanked in deep snow up to 18” deep! It was warm and sunny, so the snow was melting underneath and my new Salomon’s sloshed through, often breaking through to the mud or melted snow below. The dirty girl gaiters kept chunks of snow out, so my feet only got a little wet when they were briefly submerged in water. Pair that with a pair of darn tough socks, and you’ve got a winning combination. How is the Width?: I cut a bright orange piece of paper to match the widest part of the shoe and it measured 3.5". With the paper under my foot viewed from above, it isn't visible at all unless I lean slightly left or right. These shoes are the perfect width for me. I hope that helps you decide if these are the right width for you. Comfort? I had more room in the shoes than I have with any others, so at first, I wondered if my feet would slide a bit and perhaps cause blisters. I was on my feet for over 9 hours that first day and my feet did not hurt at all! They were very comfortable. Laces? I appreciated this style of laces because they don't come untied. Sole? There were some steep places on Mount Chase where I had to kick the snow with my toe to get a grip and climb higher. These shoes performed beautifully for this mid-50’s Florida native who had no idea she would appreciate the grippy outsole so much! I have never written such a detailed review, but I appreciate the design of these shoes so much and wanted to share. I highly recommend them!

Super Comfortable and supportive!
I bought these shoes about a month ago. I had 4 surgeries on my left foot within a 2 year period. I'm always looking for comfortable but supportive shoes that assisted me in my very active life. These are perfect!

AWESOME Shoe, LOVE it!
I have been buying Salomon shoes (XA Pro 3D) for decades using them for road running, trail hiking, and everyday use and LOVE them. Recently purchased X Ultra 4 and they are equally AWESOME shoes. They fit my feet very well and give GREAT support when footing is challenging. Also the shoe is VERY comfortable even after long hikes.

Quality trainer
Robust trainer. Great tread. Waterproof. Good lace up system. Comfort is exceptional. Love them. Wish they would do in other colours. Great wide fit trainer

Light Shoe With Great Grip
This is a really nice shoe that fits well. It runs large, so I had to return it, and ended up buying the mid-high version. Both are really light, and some of the most comfortable shoes I have purchased right out of the box. However, you do need to size down 1/2 size.

Comfortable and sturdy
These are my 3rd pair in 14 years. They last ages. They are so comfortable. Good investment

A good fit
Having had two pairs of the standard fit I finally realised that, while excellent in many ways, they were too narrow for my high arched feet. I ended up with foot pain. This wide fitting is so much better. They are not very much wider but much more comfortable for me. The only problem is I hate the colour and there is only one choice.

Breaking down at 150 miles
I only had this option because I need a wide shoe. I used these for hiking and walking on mixed surfaces of trails and roadsides on a 150 mile trek in Norway this summer. I feel like they shouldve lasted a little longer. The tread is worn out on the ball of the foot area, the fabric is falling apart in the backs and they are already worn out.

I love Salomon but I prefer XA PRO 3D V9
I bought the X Ultra and it bothers my feet and my heels 😭. I can't wear them for more than an hour because the pain is uncomfortable. I tried this time to buy a different model and it did not go well. I prefer the ones I've always had: XA Pro
