Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Element C30 SLX Mountain Bike
Whether we are racing or just crushing our local trails, the Rocky Mountain Element is our go-to bike for aggressive XC riding. With a lightweight design, short-travel platform, and exceptionally capable geometry, the element was born to take on the ever-evolving XC course. The Element was redesigned this year, giving us a new frame profile with a slim top tube and an upgraded bearing and pivot design, making for a more durable and reliable design. 120mm of Smoothlink suspension ensures the Element rockets up climbs while remaining capable all over the mountain, and the lightweight platform helps us skip over trail obstacles and maintain our speed. Size-specific tunes optimize performance across all sizes, and revised suspension kinematics with an increased anti-squat value makes for quicker acceleration and a more linear progression for a smoother ride feel. Rocky Mountain's Ride-4 adjustment system gives us four different settings that allow us to adjust our frame geometry to our riding style and the terrain for more capability. The Element has exceptionally slack frame geometry for a cross-country bike and sports a 65.5-degree headtube angle in the neutral setting to give us enhanced capability and confidence on the most aggressive XC courses. The long reach and wheelbase also help keep us composed in steep, aggressive terrain, and the 76.5-degree seat tube angle makes for a very efficient pedaling position for climbing. Finishing off the Element is a SRAM UDH compatible derailleur hanger for easy replacements, integrated downtube and chainstay protector to keep our frame protected, and two water bottle mounts so we can stay hydrated.
The C30 SLX build of the Rocky Mountain Element boasts incredible value and comes complete with trail-ready components. Rocky Mountain's Smoothwall carbon frame is made with premium materials for an impressive strength-to-weight ratio and stiff handling. Next, Shimano's SLX/Deore mixed 12-speed drivetrain sports a wide range and a reliable, value-based build. Deore 4-piston brakes have a great bite and tons of stopping power, while the WTB ST Light i27 TCS 2.0 rims give us confidence plowing down chunky trails. The 130mm Marzocchi Z2 Float EVOL Rail fork soaks up bigger hits easily, while the Fox Float DPS Performance rear shock is lightweight and has a custom tune for optimal performance.
