Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Team XTR Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
Race bike or after-work ripper, we love the redesigned Pivot Mach 4 SL for its ability to adapt to our riding style and recent improvements in geometry and capability. Receiving multiple updates from the previous iteration, Pivot revamped the Mach 4 SL to be more capable without losing sight of its race origins. Featuring a slacker headtube angle, a steeper seat tube angle, a longer wheelbase, a redesigned rocker link with a flip chip that gives us more travel, and a lighter-weight carbon frame, the Pivot Mach 4 SL now can take on whatever we can throw at it. Now sitting on 106mm of DW-Link suspension, the Mach 4 SL makes us more confident in rougher terrain, is still super efficient, and incorporates a flip chip into the rocker link that allows us to change the rear travel to 115mm for more capability. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle, our wheel is further out in front of us on descents, providing confidence when the trails point downwards. A longer reach and wheelbase also allow us to be more stable on the descents, and a steeper seat tube angle puts us in a more efficient pedaling position to make short work of the limb back to the top. The redesigned Pivot Mach 4 SL is way more capable than the travel may suggest, and with the addition of it being faster and lighter weight, the Mach 4 SL is what we need to take our riding to the next level.
The Team XTR Carbon Wheel build of the Pivot Mach 4 SL is top-tier and features some fo the lightest weight and most advanced components on the market. Pivot's premium carbon frame went through a weight loss program this year, shaving 280 grams over the previous version while maintaining the strength and stiffness needed for aggressive cross-country racing. Shimano's XTR drivetrain is a reliable 12-speed drivetrain with a super-light carbon crankset and a 10-51 tooth cassette range to give us top-tier performance. For a pair of race-ready wheels, Pivot slapped on the Reynolds Blacklabel 309/289 XC carbon rims paired with Industry Nine Hydra hubs to give us a lightweight and reliable wheelset. The Team XTR build is equipped with Fox Factory suspension for top-tier performance. Up front, we've got the Fox Factory 34 Step-Cast fork with 120mm of travel, giving us a lightweight, adjustable, and capable fork. The rear is fitted with Fox's Factory Float rear shock for lightweight performance that is adjustable, has great small bump sensitivity, and can be locked out through the SRAM TwistLoc grips so we can climb more efficiently. The Fox Factory Transfer dropper post gives us smooth changes in saddle height in a super lightweight package, and premium Maxxis Rekon Race tires give us the speed and grip we need for competitive cross-country riding and racing.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
