Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Belay Down Parka
Built for bone-chilling temps, the Mountain Hardwear Phantom Belay Down Parka boats 800-fill power down for an ultra-lofty, ultra-packable jacket for mountaineers, ice climbers, and winter adventures. That responsibly sourced down gives us great warmth for the weight with an insulated draft tube and box wall baffles that eliminate cold spots to maintain our core temperature we're belaying, stopping for a lunch or snack break, or huddling up at camp. The diamond-fused Pertex ripstop shell may be lightweight, but it's also abrasion-resistant and reinforced in high-wear areas that may rub against rocks, packs, and harnesses. When we're not wearing it, the Phantom Belay Parka packs down small when we stuff it into the included stuff sack.

"The Puffiest Of Puffies"
It's the most thoughtfully designed belay parka out there, by far. Excellent features, top-notch materials, and perfect sizing for layering. The photos and videos online don't do it justice, the jacket is way puffier than it looks. The Track My Down touch is also superb.

Perfect mountaineering jacket
Used for unseasonably cold June trip up Rainier. Incredibly warm for such a light, packable jacket. Wind chill temps dropped to -25F and felt totally warm at camp / during breaks popping on this bad boy. Also used as additional insulation draping over sleeping bag which really made a difference. Especially like the oversized pockets (super warm), broad sleeves, and large hood for use over helmet. All around perfect mountaineering insulated jacket. Found XL to be on the larger side but kinda love it.. still easily fits under hard shell (6’4 210lbs). I will be taking on any future trips with low temps under 20F.

Goodbye cold belays!
My very first parka and I’m already in love with it. The fabric at first looks delicate but it’s quite durable. The size runs big so order carefully. The design of the sleeves is so broad that you can put this jacket on even with your thickest gloves, the hood also accommodates the helmet well. Very satisfied with the warmth this provides on those long cold belays.
