Why We Like The HOKA Challenger ATR 7 GTX Running Shoe

For that one shoe quiver that can take us from pounding pavement to striding singletrack, we look to the HOKA Challenger ATR 7 GTX Running Shoe. The updated tread provides a smoother ride on road yet still bites on trail, while the hardwearing rubber stands strong against daily use. Now with an increased stack height, this pair mutes the shock of our strikes for an ultra-plush ride. Plus, with a breathable membrane shielding our feet from rain, not even surprise showers can disrupt our flow.

Great shoes

Pulled these out of the box and they looked so good I thought it would be a good idea to do the Mailbox Peak hike in Washington. Mailbox Peak is a 4,000 vertical hike in just over 2 miles. The sign on the trailhead says the average time round trip for the hike is 8 hours. The trail was relatively dry with some areas of mud, roots, and rocks. The shoes were great in all conditions and the only part of my body that wasn't in pain was my feet when I reached the summit after about 2.5 hours. I can usually fly on the down hike so figured I would be back at the van in an hour. Almost immediately my knees, hips, thighs, and calves were on fire. It was the longest down hike ever. Visions of me having to call my wife on the walkie talkie to have her call SAR kept flashing through my head. I finally made it to the parking lot after about 3 hours of agony and as I write this review 5 days later I struggle to stand up I'm so sore. The one part of my body that didn't hurt and don't hurt today were my feet. I did get some small rocks in my shoes on the way down but the thought of bending over to take my shoes off was far worse than just dealing with the pebbles. Sorry for the long winded review just wanted to give some perspective. I would strongly recommend the shoes.

Too narrow and too short

This was my first pair of Hoka's. The toe box is extremely narrow and the length overall is too short. The sole has the comfort that Hoka'a are known for.

Challenger 7 GTX

I needed a show to umpire slow pitch softball. Shoes have to be all black. I'm a huge fan of Hoka so figured I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did, I'm extremely happy.

Returned them

They did not fit me. They felt too roomy around my foot and unstable. I did not where them outside, just tried them on. I returned them and ordered Speedgoat 5's which I love!

Yes, I would buy again in a heartbeat.

Love the weight of the shoe. The support is awesome. Last night during a rain storm my feet stayed dry!

Toe Irritation

I LOVE HOKA shoes and have owned them for a few years now. I hike almost every day and have used the Speed Goat for 2-3 years but always developed a blister and callous on my big toes. I contacted HOKA's Support Center and it was suggested that I try the Challenger as an alternative to address the toe problem. I bought a pair and have been using them for a few weeks now - unfortunately the problem continues!. Joe

Too tight and I don't have a wide foot

Thought these would be a nice shoe but they were really uncomfortable especially on the width and I don't ever have to wear wide shoes

Worth the sole!

Light, comfy, durable, flexible, stylish, all in all in one shoes.

That is true, I love this pair of shoes

I Like the M challenger ATR 7 GTX shoes, they are comfortable, but some howe I wish I could tighten them better with the shoelaces, like the other pair a have, the M clifton 9, or the (regular Challenger). But all your shoes, they are comfortable.
