Why We Like The Astral Hiyak Kayak Shoe
The Astral Men's Hiyak Kayak Shoe is lighter, more durable, and faster-drying than traditional neoprene booties, not to mention grippier and more stable. The abrasion-resistant, water-repelling canvas upper is far more durable than neoprene, and it's bonded directly to the G.ss outsole for enhanced stability. Airmesh insulation, like neoprene, traps air between your foot and the outside to keep feet warm. But unlike neoprene, it dries overnight, so it's ready to go again the next day.

Cool!
Super comfy, stylish and great in the water…dunno what else anyone would want.

OK - But would get a larger size
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 11 US
I typically wear between a 10 and 10.5 sized show (US). I ordered an 11, hoping it would be large enough for the NRS dry pants socks plus a warm insulating sock. It's a pretty tight fit and while I can wear them, I can't put much layering on and my feet were cold and my toes hit the end of the shoe, which at times was a bit painful (especially if my feet were cold). River bottom traction is OK but not as good as I expected (although probably good by comparison to other shoes). If I could re-purchase, I would go with a 12 (since they don't do half sizes).

Solid shoe
Wore them for a majority of the water rescue work I did when deployed to Florida and North Carolina with my USAR team. They were comfortable and grip was fantastic. Did not have any issues, easy to get on and off. Would recommend.

Small sizing
The sizing was quite a bit smaller than my other astrals but I feel like sizing up would be too big

Comfortable water shoe
Comfortable, warm shoe with excellent grip. Perfect for my canoe trips. The high shaft ensures a firm fit and cushions the ankle.

Size up for drysuit booties. Great fit!
Great comfortable, grippy shoe, fits perfectly. I have 2 pairs, one a size up for drysuit booties. Definitely go a size up for layers!

Lovin' my Astral Hiyak's!
Have used them twice. Once a river trip and once doing a survey job in a river. Great gripping, good support and high ankle protection. A comfortable shoe that can be worn all day.

Superior Grip!
The Hiyak's are my go to sailing shoes in breeze over 15knots. The ankle support is second to none, superior grip, light weight and dry out quickly. Theres not much not to like about these shoes!

Hiyak brief review
Bought the shoe specifically to fit over a dry suit. Spend 8 or so days on the Tat/Alsek river wearing the shoe most of the day. My one criticism is with the sole - I think it should be made more substantial as it seems very thin and made walking over rocks difficult. I think something like the sole in the water tennie I have would be better.

Dope shoes
Out of the box, it seems a few design upgrades have been made! The velcro fits my ankle more precisely than previous models. The triple stitching is still tye way to go! And I swear the rubber is a bit stickier! This is at least the fourth time I’ve bought this shoe. The addition of women’s sizing was a necessary no-brainer! I teach rowing on whitewater and am a swiftwater rescue instructor. This shoe is THE shoe my feet prefer. And when it’s time to go kayaking, it does that too.
