Why We Like The Solstice XT 2 Shoe
Made to go from the gym to the trail the Altra Running Solstice XT 2 Shoe is a on-stop-shop for all-day adventures. We use this shoe when out hitting the weights in the morning and going on a quick hike in the evening. Will be buying a second pair soon!
Purchased these almost a year ago for my gym workouts and short treadmill runs. These shoes barely see the outdoor terrain (I use Lone Peaks for that) so I've been able to preserve the tread. After 11 months, the only wear I experienced is the tag on the tongue is finally getting frayed. I've read some of the negative reviews and maybe it's just been bad luck on that batch of manufacturing. These have been nothing but bliss in the gym. I love the thin sole and ability to feel the ground and of course the wide toe box is ideal. The only weird thing is the shoe lace length is curiously short. I double knot when I run and can barely achieve that, given the length of the laces.

Soles Fall Apart
The sole of the first pair I received fell apart in a week worth of use. Exchanged. Second pair soles went out in 2 uses. Will return these.

Comfortable, but not durable
I really liked these shoes when I got them, they fit my foot shape great. I walk my dog 2 miles a day in asphalt roads, after 120 miles/ 2 months of walking and some daily wear in the weekends, the tread had worn down. After 200 miles the upper tore by the left big toe. I would love to see a more durable walking shoe, that could handle daily walking for more than 2 months. I've had at least 5 pair of Altra shoes prior to this and they all made it past the 6 month mark. These shoes are nice and airy on hot days. It's almost like you're not wearing a shoe.

Altra is going the wrong way.
I love my original XTs(and numerous styles of Altra running shoes). I had to return the XT 2 almost immediately. Unfortunately, Altra is going away from the natural shaped toe box that people loved. It's getting harder and harder to find Altras that fit now. I might as well be buying Hokas. Sad.

So far the Solstice seems like a great gym shoe
I wanted a shoe that was stable on turf and rubber. The Solstice seems like the perfect shoe. I own several Altras, each with its own purpose, from gym to trail to work. I like every pair I own.

I would try these again if they were wider
The sole feels almost exactly like what I want out of a cross training shoe, however I have very wide feet and this shoe is just too narrow for me. I have other Altra shoes that have been nothing but excellent. It would be awesome if these were wide enough for me

Documentary evidence of cr*p Solstice leaves bheind
I'm a scientist, so per my comment earlier about the amount of dirt, soil, particles, stone and other cr*p that the Solstice shoe leaves behind: I'm a scientist and Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and in my professional opinion, Altra should have performed an *FMEA* (Failure Modes Effects Analysis), which is a quality tool NASA used for the space program asking, "What can do wrong with this specific design?" Well, Altra, here is some *hard data*: is some photographic data of about *1/3* of the amount of dirt, particles, grass, mud, and little stones that just *one* shoe left behind in my kitchen today from a 30 min walk outside with the cats. I'm literally having to clean my floor 2-3X/day when I wear these shoes outside. FMEA, Altra, you should be doing an FMEA on your shoe designs.
