Why We Like The Shimano RC903 S-PHYRE Wide Cycling Shoe
The race-engineered Shimano RC903 S-PHYRE Wide Cycling Shoes feature the same high-performance technology as its regular width version, but with a wider fit for riders who seek a bit of extra space. Using DYNALAST technology, a proprietary last built specifically for wide-width shoes, you are provided with a fit that conforms to the natural contours of your foot to allow for a smooth, efficient upstroke. An anti-twist heel cup in the shoe's footbed stabilizes your heel when you put down max watts, while its optimum stiffness levels maximize your power transfer and reduce energy loss.

Relief!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I went through a difficult, painful time with replacing my shoes. I went through 2-3 pair trying to find shoes which were comfortable. I experience pain after an hour or so on my bike. I had to resort to a podiatrist for injections in one foot. I finally read about these shoes with the wide toe box. I was somewhat reluctant to buy shoes online but decided to try them. I am so happy and relieved I did! They are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn for biking. I am riding for hours with no pain. They are pricey but well worth it.

Perfect fit and high quality shoes
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I bought these shoes about a month or so ago. Since the moment I put them on, I love the fit. I have a wide toe box and somewhat narrow ankle and the sapphire’s fit perfectly. The ankle retention is perfect. After trying most of the higher end brands (Sidi, Specialized, Giro, Lake), I would say that this so far are the best fitting shoes. The carbon sole is plenty stiff and doesn’t cause me hot spots like the Sidi shots.

Disappointing - Wides only in full size
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- 41W

These seem to be nice shoes and well made. For $450 they should be! Also for $450 I would expect the wide version to be available in half sizes. I tried the shoes on and walked around on the carpet. They felt a little large (long) with a little extra toe room but even this wide version was a bit narrow for me. No amount of tightening would stop the heel slip - a sign that the size is too large. If I went down a full size I know even the wide version would be too narrow. Maybe a half size smaller would fit, but it isn’t offered. I purchased a size 41W, my street shoe size is 7.5. I don’t feel that the Shimano size table is off, just too much of a compromise to offer only full sizes in cycling shoes that demand a precision fit. They do feel comfortable when cinched tight, a good sign of a well made shoe. I can’t comment on ride feel since I’m sending these back and not taking a chance on the full size smaller. Going back to a more familiar brand. My experience - cycling for 34 years. I’ve gone through quite a few high end shoes but these were my first try for Shimano.
