Why We Like The Merrell Nova 3 Mid GTX Hiking Boot
Merrell's best-selling trail running shoe for men now comes in an over-the-ankle hiker version, the Nova 3 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot. More of a hybrid sneaker-hiker than a traditional hiking boot, the Nova has a light-duty build for fast hikes, urban hikes, and everyday wear. There's a waterproof bootie for protection if things get soggy or snowy and a Vibram rubber outsole to make sure we don't slip on the trail or the urban jungle as we're out hiking, walking the dog, or wandering out and about. It's a lightweight alternative for those who prefer a more sneaker-like look and feel to a sturdy hiking and backpacking boot.

The best shoe I’ve ever had
These are my second pair as I wore out the first in 2023. Quite simply they are the best fitting and most supportive shoes I have ever owned. I buy 1 size larger than my foot to allow for swelling on hot days and to for some breathing on hikes. These are well made and waterproof (for minor drizzles or puddles). While I own a low cut walking shoe by Merrell and another of their over-the-ankle models they are stiffer and less comfortable than the Nova 3 Mid. A great 3 season shoe that checks a lot of boxes for me. These are much better for walking, light hiking and general around town shoes than any other of the major show companies I have owned, period.

Love These Shoes
FIrst time used right out of the box I ran 10 miles on trail. Super comfortable, great traction on rocks. One of the best trail running shoes/hikers I've ever owned and I think going forward these will be in my rotation permanently.

Comfortable but not waterproof
Very comfortable boot - feels like a sneaker. But not waterproof. First couple of days I walked in wet grass and socks felt damp - then next day walked in rain and wet grass and socks were wet. Will need to return these. Unfortunate since I really liked the comfort but clearly not waterproof as advertised.

A great shoe for general every day walk-abouts.
I live on one of the Great Lakes and hike around on a peninsula on almost a daily basis. I needed a shoe that is light but can handle the puddles and wet grasses I often travel through without my feet getting soaked. These totally fit the bill. Super light but still supportive of the ankle and they keep your feet dry. Awesome arch support as well. Highly recommend.

Extremely Comfortable
Lightweight, good ankle support, very comfortable walking shoe. Have not yet experienced in rainy conditions (reason for 4 stars) but protects feet in tall, wet grass. I’m glad I tried the Merrell Nove Mid 3 because tying low cut shoe strings across the top of my feet is uncomfortable. Really like the olive green color.

Super comfortable but not waterproof
I bought these shoes -nova 3 mid -waterproof-about 500 miles ago which for me is about 3 1/2 months. They are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn. They are great for my plantar fasciitis. The sole is super durable. Their one drawback is that they are not waterproof at all. They are minimally water resistant if water is splashed on them, but if you step into a creek, that is deeper than the sole, you are wet almost immediately. Since I bought them for their waterproof capability, that has been a huge disappointment. I would buy them again in a second if they would keep my feet dry. As it is, I’m not sure what I’m going to do next.

Tackle all day adventure with comfort!
Extremely light and comfortable. Just got back from a long weekend of hiking in the Colorado Rockies. Excellent for those all day, all-terrain hikes!

Too narrow for me
I’m sure these are great shoes but they are too narrow for my wide feet. I was going to return them, but then wasn’t sure, so wore them on a walk. Should have known better. Have since realise Merrill have wide cuts in a bunch of their models so will look out for that next time.

Cozy
Soooooo comfortable. Not great grip on wet surfaces. Not a ton of ankle support. Very comfortable!
