Light and extremely effective
Light, extremely simple, and effective. Carry on every backpacking trip. Filters water fast and I’ve got mine set up to quick connect between direct connection to a camelback straw and a hooked tube to fill a bottle easily with minimal bulk and weight.

So far, so good.
Very light weight and compact. Feels a little delicate, but it’s held up well so far. Of course I haven’t taken a good spill with it yet. Easy, and dare I say, a silky smooth pump. Tight port connections with no leak issues. Easy to take apart and clean. Filter is good quality. If you want to up the filter game this pump is Interchangeable with the pro version. My son said the standard issued filter gave the water a refreshing “cucumber taste.” 😂! I didn’t notice that, I just thought it was good and clean. And I’ve yet to come down with any parasitic symptoms so I’d say we’re doing good so far. Comes with a bladder and bottle fitting. I haven’t tried the bladder connector yet. The bottle fitting is designed for two different opening sizes. Only complaint with the bottle fitting is that it’s a hard smooth plastic, so if you’re on an uneven surface, or pump to rigorously, it’s slipping out. It’d be nice to have a soft plastic that you could fit in nice and snug. Transfer tubing on the other hand is very soft and compliant, so naturally it likes to pinch occasionally on the outport (which sits on the top of the pump) if you’re holding the pump too high or at an awkward angle. An elbow connector for the outport tubing would eliminate this occasional issue. All in all I’m happy with the purchase and will continue to keep an eye on the products coming out from Katadyn. Maybe an elbow connector is in the future…

Effective and efficient
This Katadyn filter works great for backpacking. I appreciated the high pumpable volume rate. Good draw strength. It was significantly faster than the gravity filter bags my friends used. The foam bobber keeps the intake nozzle on top and out of the murkiness. The output piece fits great into a Nalgene or water bladder opening. Simple enough for someone new to water filtration.

Great Filter
Simple and easy to use. Fairly light weight as well. The Flash Deal on Expertvoice made this purchase a no-brainer.

Love Katadyn!!!!
I own a Vario and these filters are just at efficient. I put this filter in my truck to use in emergencies. Never can be too prepared! The filter is very easy to use, clean and store. Easily pumps filtered water into a Nalgene or a bladder to store until later. Replacement filters are easily available and I bought a spare set just to keep on hand. Make sure that the water you use is as clear as possible to extend the life of your filter.

Go-To for Water Filtering
Can't beat the Hiker Pro for relying on clean water out in the wilderness. I have many filter options, but this is my ole reliable unit I can always count on in any situation.

Appears to be a good filter.
Honestly, I haven't used it yet and prob won't for a while. All I can do is compare it the MSR filter I have. The MSR seems more robust and has a ceramic filter, but the Katadyn is light weight and seems somewhat fragile but solid at the same time. I'm not sure why other reviewers are complaining about the nipple where the tube goes in. From my experience taking the tube on and off a few times, it doesn't seem any more fragile than the MSR nipple. As with anything plastic and protruding, I wouldn't recommend using a lot of force with it or putting pressure on it. Overall, I think it will work fine and I have a friend who gives his Katadyn Hiker high marks

Simple, perfect
The filter is small, stout, and flawless. It's been used numerous times in lousy conditions and it hasn't left us wishing for anything else.

Pumped much faster than my MSR
My buddy and I did a 3 day hike up in Vermont over the summer. I brought my MSR and he brought the Katadyn. My MSR pumped so slow I would probably still be trying to fill my water. He was able to fill a Nalgene and 2 bladders before I filled half a Nalgene. I have heard the MSR filters more but I haven't heard of any issues with this filter. Pulling from pretty clear, running streams. That water tasted fine and looked clean. Worth it for the speed of refilling and ease of use.
