Why We Like The Tracker S Avalanche Beacon

Backcountry Access's Tracker S Avalanche Beacon is a slightly stripped down version of BCA's Tracker 3 Transceiver to make BCA’s reliable transceiver technology available to more backcountry users. The Tracker S still boasts an impressive 50 meter search on a reliable triple antenna design. In multiple burial scenarios, the Signal Supression mode lets us suppress a signal once the fine search has begun, allowing us to move onto the next victim. The only differences between the Tracker S and the Tracker 3 are the motion-sensing auto revert and ability to upgrade the software.

Seems fine to me

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It's an avalanche beacon. It is lightweight and straightforward. Online resources suggest it is not as powerful or fully-featured as others on the market, but I don't have much money so this is what I ended up with. Seems like a good deal to me, ideally it'll go unused in any kind of real emergency and end up being a huge waste of money.

much heavier than advertised, Cheaply ma

I was looking forward to get it, got it today and I am very disappointed with it. Advertised beacon (including batteries) 165g, actual beacon weight weight is 212g, even without the batteries it is 178g. Harness advertised weight is 120g, actual weight is 163g. That make one of the heaviest sets, instead of one of the lightest. In addition it looks and feels cheap, and the display quality is much inferior compared to the alternatives (I also own Barryvox, and two different Pieps models).

Simple and Easy

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought this to replace an older model Tracker thinking it wouldn't be much different. This beacon is much quicker to locate, much more intuitive switching from transmit to search modes and the multiple search functions are much more user friendly. Unless you make your living in search and rescue, this beacon will likely take care of the needs for most recreational backcountry users.
