Why We Like The Rab Aeon 20L Backpack

The Rab Aeon 20L Backpack is a sweet and streamlined pack for serious day hikers. We love the Air Contour X back panel for the way it ventilates our back while still giving us that close-to-back fit to support our loads while remaining agile for sure-footed scrambling and more technical trails. The adjustable back panel and hip belt let us personalize our fit for better performance and comfort while the wrap-around stretch yoke gives us a soft but secure fit in the shoulders. On top of that high-performance fit, it's hydration-compatible (reservoir not included), packed with convenient pockets, and includes a rain cover to keep our gear and devices dry in a surprise flurry or thunderstorm.

This is a pack that can go from the office to the crag and then out to a brewery– I have truly enjoyed my adventures with the Aeon 20L. The Aeon’s compartments and pockets provide efficient organization--effortlessly accommodating essentials like snacks, water bottles, and extra layers. The pack also incorporates technical elements such as weather-resistant coatings and hide-away rain cover, reinforced stitching, and adjustable straps that provide optimal comfort and support.

A bit disappointed with materials

A bit disappointed with materials and internals and lack of pockets.. perhaps my fault picking the wrong backpack but I thought 20L was good enough..

Used for 7 days day

Used for 7 days day hiking 80 miles on SW Portuguese coast. Great lightweight backpack with good pockets for water bottles on both sides and for gear at the back. Walking stick stretchy clips didn’t seem to hold the sticks securely so I have added a webbing and clip fastening at the top. I would like quick stock store loops. Mesh at the back pulled when caught on one of my first hikes. I haven’t worked out how to adjust the size.

I really wanted to like it…

Looking at the design and the spec this is everything I want in a day pack for hill days, whether they are walking, running, climbing or scrambling. However, having spent a few days on the hill with it I’ve noticed so many little problems that all add up to a bag they is extremely annoying to use. An example of this is the bottle pockets which quite short and narrow. This means if you have a wider bottle like a 1L nalgene it won’t sit in them deeply enough to not fall out every time you lean forward or sideways. This is exacerbated by the lower compression straps which sit low against the bottle, slip under it, and push the bottle up and out of the pocket. Then their is the tapered shape of the main compartment, which looks great but causes all sorts of issues in reality, the size of the internal pocket, the way the back adjusts, which causes the Velcro to bunch up against the back panel, the waist strap which is way to big for me (I’m at the stops and not a skinny guy). It’s like they built a great looking and well spec’d pack but never tested it, which pains me to write because I have tonnes of rab kit that I love.
